12/26/2004 Archived Entry: "Happy Holidays"

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Blessed Solstice or Yule, Happy Kwanzaa, or whatever late December festivities you might be partaking of.

It's been a little long since the last update here. My livejournal has been getting more attention than here, which is a bit sad and pathetic and I apologise. Partially it's also because I really need to get this site sorted out and shift the personal stuff to where I want it, which will be onyx.silentgarden.net. There's nothing there at this moment, not even a placeholder, but for the random soul who actually reads this, you're forewarned ;)

The big news this Christmas is that PreZ and I are expecting a baby in July. Thanks so far to all who have congratulated us.

Livejournal peeps can be included on the baby filter I have in place there (let me know if you want to be added), readers here will get all the updates here anyway. LJ is getting a filter because of some ex-friend dorks whom I don't feel like accommodating in the baby thing. Yes, lj drama, ain't it wonderful? ;)

We had a quiet Christmas, which was nice. We went up to PreZ's cousin's place and had dinner with her, her 2 kids and her ex-husband. Spoke to a swath of extended family during the annual spate of Christmas phone calls which was entertaining, especially some of the reactions when they were told that there was a baby on the way.

Christmas morning we'd already rendered PreZ's dad speechless with the news, and I'm quite sure we made his year with the announcement, as well as his day, seeing as he'd gone to visit Stacey's grave that morning too, which I doubt is ever really an uplifting occasion. After PreZ told him he got his dad's new fiancée Dawn on the phone, who said his dad was sitting there with a big grin plastered on his face.

I got my youngest brother to tell my grandmother when he went for the usual Christmas morning coffee tradition, so by way of that declaration my mother also knows. I've yet to reach my dad. I missed his calls just before Christmas, and he was incommunicado during the weekend because he was out in the bush for the weekend. It would have been nice to tell him before Christmas, but ah well. I guess now it'll be a bit of a birthday surprise for him, as that's coming up on Wednesday. I'm hoping he'll be really happy, he's not had that happy of a past few years, so I'd like to give him something to be excited about.
